Smartech Aero-hawk blues - this may just be my newbie
skills (or lack there of) but I suspect there may be something else going on
here. Check out this video that shows the problem.

The characteristic is that it will start to hover then
oscillates wildly until I of course I have to set it back down. No amount
of tweaking I do seems to remedy this problem, but I've not started to adjust
the settings on the electronics.
If you have any clues as to what I should look at, replace
or tweak please shoot me a line. (jamie at dph.com)
History (and things I've tried)
- I know how to fly R/C airplanes (cars and boats) so I'm
not a stranger to controlling other types of remote machines.
- I've practiced on my flight simulator (Dave Brown) -
but it does not offer a FP helicopter so I'm not convinced it is as useful
as it could be.
- I've broken a few blades along the way, but the current
ones are fresh and since I've added the training balls, I've saved on
blades. :)
- I've made sure the blades are balanced as best as I can
- there is some vibration but it doesn't seem too severe (but I lack a lot
of experience here)
- The anti-rotation bars broke at one point but I
fixed them with some graphite rod I have.
- This oscillation problem occurs with or without the
training gear and has been present for a while now - I
can't recall when it started.
- I've tried reducing the throw on the control arms
- I've moved the battery around to change the balance
Modifications done so far
- CNC Shaft collar (my own)
- Adjustable control rods (my own)
- one way clutch main drive gear www.helihobby.com
Modifications on order
- Aluminum Anti-Rotation arm (the current one is a
repaired / non-stock unit)
- Swashplate ball insert
